Our first views of the Rocky Mountains as we drove through Denver were so amazing! The kiddos have never been to the Rockies, and we were all super excited to be in Colorado!

Our first Colorado adventure took us to Red Rocks Park. Ok, so technically it’s Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, but as the amphitheatre was closed due to a concert the day we were there, I can’t show you that part. 😉 Fun Fact: “Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon – the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world.” (https://www.redrocksonline.com/our-story/history/)

Joe and I went to the amphitheatre many years ago, so we wanted to bring Luke and Juliana, but unfortunately the security guards had just closed it for a concert playing at the venue. It is a really cool place for a concert and the sounds from the stage have this amazing amplification from the surrounding sandstone. The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Johhnny Cash, John Denver, The Grateful Dead, Diana Ross, Billy Idol, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, and many more have graced that stage with their presence. I guess that means we need to take another trip there sometime to be able to share more pics! 😁
This is as close as we could get to the amphitheatre:

Here’s a quick video of the gorgeous drive heading into Red Rocks:
We went on some amazing trails and explored a few caves while we were there. The temperature was really hot, but the views were super cool! You have to look close at the first photo, but there’s a deer grazing in it!

All of us thought the different colors in the rocks were amazing! The caves caused by erosion were definitely some of our favorite places to explore!

I loved driving through this cool tunnel!

What makes Red Rocks Park so special? Well, first, it’s 6450 ft. above sea level. It’s also where the Great Plains meets the Rocky Mountains. There are dinosaur skeletons of the Diplodocus and Tyrannosaurus Rex in the park. There are also some fantastic rock formations! According to http://www.redrocksonline.com/our-story/geology/, “The southern monolith, that bears resemblance to a ship, is named “Ship Rock.” On the opposite side of the amphitheater stands “Creation Rock.” Both monoliths are taller than Niagara Falls. Red Rocks Amphitheatre was once listed as among the Seven Wonders of the World.” It’s so cool how the angles of the rocks seem to be pushed up in all different directions.

Although there is a charge to buy concert tickets, parking is free and the admission to the park is also free. It was a really great place to spend the day and start our Colorado explorations!
