Have you ever wondered what paradise looks like? St. George Island is our kind of paradise! 🌴

Beautiful white sand beaches, waves gently crashing on the shore, and the rays of the sun shining down on us made us feel like we were in paradise. 🏖️

After checking in at the hotel, we immediately needed to check out the beach. Yes, we do have a need for salt water therapy! 😉 Kicking off our shoes, we walked along the shore and found some beautiful seashells. 🐚

After grabbing a bite to eat, Joe went back to the beach to fish and the kids and I went to explore the island. St. George Island is a safe place and is very family friendly, so we felt comfortable walking the island–even after dark. It didn’t take long to find the lighthouse, so we decided to look around it and we found the visitors center and a very nice park for the kids to enjoy. We all made some friends and we ended up staying for hours just relaxing and enjoying some wonderful company until the sun set around us. It was getting late, so we walked back to our room to get some rest. 😴

The next day dawned bright and clear and we were so lucky to be able to watch the dolphins from the balcony! It was amazing! Speaking of amazing, we went back to the lighthouse! We went into the gift shop and museum to purchase our tickets and took a look at the history of the lighthouse and island. 📖

The Cape St. George Lighthouse has an interesting history behind it. In 1833, the first lighthouse was built on the island. Damaged by storms, it was dismantled and rebuilt in 1848 on a different part of the island so it would be easier to see. The second lighthouse was damaged by a hurricane in 1851, so they built the third lighthouse on the island in 1852. The continued erosion and hurricanes took their toll and the lighthouse started tilting. 😳

The Cape St. George Lighthouse Society rallied to save this iconic landmark and were able to tilt the lighthouse back to its original position. However, the erosion continued and soon the lighthouse was completely surrounded by water and collapsed in 2005. The fourth lighthouse was built using 22,000+ bricks that were salvaged and carefully cleaned. Construction on the 77 ft. tall lighthouse was finalized in 2008. The lighthouse is open to the public and we enjoyed climbing the 92 wooden stairs to get to the top to see the LED beacon and view of the island. 🌟

After our lighthouse tour, we decided to take a walk to find a bait shop. The island is very walkable and we enjoyed the friendly people we met along the way. I have to say, we found the coolest bait shop ever called Survivors Bait & Tackle! The owner is into some really creative and ghoulish creations! They were super cool! I took my share of pictures and the kids were happy to pose with their new friends! 🦈

All that walking helped us build up quite an appetite! We had walked by the Blue Parrot quite a few times, so we thought we’d give it a try. It was amazing! The service and food were both excellent! Joe had the mahi-mahi, I had the fried oysters, and both kiddos had a grouper kids meal. There was plenty to share with each other to try each dish, and we enjoyed it all. 😋

After lunch we decided to to go the pool for a bit and have some fun. The pool sign had us all laughing and wondering what was up with that! 😂 We all had a good time playing frisbee in the pool, then Joe and I took a time out to sit in the chaise lounges and watch the kiddos swim. 🏊

Before long, the beach was calling our name, so off we went! We saw this adorable dog wearing sunglasses, so I snapped a pic (with the owner’s permission). Then we saw an amazing turtle sand sculpture! It was so cool! 🐢

Joe wanted to get some more fishing in, so he decided to try his luck while Juliana and I explored the beach. He and Luke had a blast and caught some whiting and bluefish. 🐟

We wrapped up our adventure on St. George Island with another trip to the playground and walk around the island. It was nice to see the lighthouse after dark with the beacon shining! 🌟
