We love to learn and share the love of learning with others. So when we have family visiting, we like to find activities that are educational and the whole family will enjoy. This visit had multiple family members opting to visit the Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. 🤓

The minute you enter the lobby, you’re automatically transported to the Mesozoic Era. There’s a super cool movie screen system that you show up on, then various prehistoric creatures are super-imposed to make it look like they’re interacting with you. 🐅 It was hilarious when the Saber Tooth Tiger sat on my head! There was a watering hole the animals would go to take a drink. The wooly mammoth and baby were adorable! 🦣

When we got tired of acting silly in the lobby, we went to see the first exhibit. The Water Shapes Florida exhibit was really neat! 💦 Not only did the kids learn about water, they also loved exploring the caves with realistic cave formations inside. 🤩

The next exhibit we went inside was the Florida Fossils: Evolution of Life and Land. It was so cool to see the fossils and see the Shark Jaw Row. 🦈 We also loved seeing the skeletal mounts and imagining life at the dawn of the mammals. 🦴

The South Florida People & Environments is also a family favorite! We love the Florida Estuary and it’s always cool to pretend you live under the sea. 🪼 Going inside the Calusa leader’s house was really awesome! 🛖

Our Energy Future was a nice little exhibit for the kiddos. They liked exploring the exhibit and learning about energy usage. 🔌

Although we did not go into the Butterfly Rainforest Exhibit, they had a really nice exhibit with butterflies from all over the world. We were even able to watch some hatch from their chrysalis! 🦋

Our thoughts: explore, learn, and enjoy this amazing museum, but don’t forget to look up. Some of the most amazing displays are above your head! ⬆️

The Florida Museum of Natural History will be closing on March 23rd and will not reopen until sometime in 2026. They will be having an expansion that looks pretty huge! We are very excited to see what new exhibits they will have and we will definitely be back when they reopen. 😁
