Frankfort, MI

During our travels we took a day trip to Frankfort, MI. The weather was warm and sunny, so we decided a beach day was required, lol. 😎 The western part of the state is beautiful and we love soaking our feet in Lake Michigan. 👣

The first part of our day we spent exploring the Point Betsie Lighthouse. 🤩 The Life Saving Station was built in 1875 and was one of the first that was built in America. There have been some new additions to the buildings since we were there a few years ago as well as a gift shop that was added.

We always enjoy learning about the history of places we visit, and this was no exception. The rugged conditions the Coast Guard worked in is definitely something to see. 😮

The inside of the lighthouse is open to tours and you can go to the top of the lighthouse. The keeper’s quarters were decorated to reflect the original historic decor from many years past. 🥰

After we left Pt. Betsie, we had a nice picnic lunch in Frankfort. The white sand beach was beautiful! ⛱ We took a relaxing walk out to the Frankfort North Light Lighthouse on the pier and we could see schools of lake trout & salmon in the water. 🐟

Apparently we needed more sand therapy, because we then drove to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes–which are the tallest freshwater sand dunes in the world. 😉 We always love climbing the dunes! They are 450-460 feet high and there are miles and miles of pure white sand. It’s quite a workout, lol. 🚶‍♀️ When we were done with the dune climb, which was 284 feet high, we had a fun time sitting at the bottom and watching people run down the dune. 😁 It never fails, people start running down the dunes then don’t realize the momentum and end up rolling down them. It can be quite entertaining to watch! 😅

All good times must come to an end, so we loaded up our exhausted family and went back to the cabin to get some R&R before our next excursion. 😴
