June 2024

One of our favorite places in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is Munising. There’s so much natural beauty everywhere you look. There is something for everyone to enjoy. 😊

Our stay in Munising was made even more comfortable by the nice hotel we stayed at. The staff at Boarders Inn & Suites was so kind! The room was clean, the pool was warm, the breakfast was filling, and the location can’t be beat. (It was outside of town–but not too far.)

As most of you know, our family loves to hike. 🥾 So the first place we went to was Munising Falls. There was a peaceful path that had a few people, but wasn’t overly crowded. We had a nice little hike along the river to view the falls. They were definitely worth the trip. 😀

Right near the falls was Sand Point Beach. The water in Munising Bay was pretty chilly, lol. The air wasn’t very warm either. 😏 It was worth the discomfort to soak our feet and get some beach therapy, though.

The second waterfall we went to was right on the highway. Not hard to get to–although we drove past and had to turn back around to find it, lol. 😂 You can see it right from the road, but we wanted to get closer. A bit of a climb on a rocky, muddy path and we were at Alger Falls.

The third and final waterfall we found was Scott Falls. 💦 This one was definitely hard to find! On the map it said to go to the Scott Falls Roadside Park. Well, what we figured out after walking along the trails and beach was that it is actually across the highway from it. 🤦‍♂️ So if you ever decide to venture out that way, please learn from our mistakes, lol! We truly loved the falls, though. It was so cool to be able to walk into and around them. It was a beautiful little place and worth the effort.

After the falls, we went back to the beach and read about The Face in the Rock. It was carved in 1820 and is of the “Powers of the Air.” It was made as a tribute to an Ojibwa hero. 🥰 We didn’t really think we would find it since it’s approximately the size of a real face, but we decided to just walk on the beach and enjoy the tranquility. Luke and Jodi had to climb some rocks, but Joe and Juliana stayed on solid ground. While looking around, Luke was looking at the wall of rocks closer inland and surprise, surprise–he found The Face in the Rock! Go Luke!!! 🥳

Knowing Jodi, of course we had to look at a lighthouse! 💖 Since we had already been to most of the lighthouses in that area before, we just went back to our favorite, the Munising Front Range Lighthouse. It’s super easy to get to as it’s right in town.

Now honestly it’s such a perfect area to explore and there’s so much to do, but I think the excursion we all enjoyed the most was the Glass Bottom Shipwreck Tours. Wow! It was amazing! The 2 shipwrecks we got to see were The Bermuda and The Herman H. Hettler. On the way to view them, we got to see Pictured Rocks up close. We loved it! They even took us into one of the caves along the shore. And here’s a shocker, we got to see another lighthouse! 😁 We had never been to the East Channel Lighthouse on Grand Island and it was incredible! (Yep, Jodi was thrilled, lol.)

After the boat tour, we were hungry 😋 and decided to treat ourselves to some fresh whitefish 🐟 at Cap’n Ron’s Fish & Chips right near Matson’s Fishery. It was delicious and one 10 piece family meal basket filled us all!

There really is so much more to do and see in the area that we decided we need to go back and spend more time there. Maybe not this summer, but hopefully in 2025.

Thanks for joining us while we ventured to beautiful Munising! We’ll be back soon with more Traveling with the Trapps!
