Manistique, MI

We had a wonderful time in Manistique for our long weekend! We drove up to meet with more of the Trapp family. 😊

Our stay at Gray Wolf Lodge was nice. We spent our first evening at the pool and in the hot-tub with Joe & Nick (our son and grandson) since the weather decided not to cooperate, lol. It was fun playing in the water and just being together again.

On Saturday we had a few different adventures. After helping our oldest son take down his camping gear, we started out for Kitch-iti-kipi (The Big Spring) at Palms Book State Park. Juliana was chosen to be the captain by the forest ranger and she did a great job powering the raft across the lake. 💪 Our family enjoyed learning about The Big Spring and loved seeing the emerald green water and watching the huge lake trout!

Our favorite fun facts about Kitch-iti-kipi are:

It is Michigan’s largest fresh water spring
More than 10,000 gallons of water per minute are coming up through the springs below
It stays at 45 degrees all year round
It is 40 ft. deep and 200 ft. across

What visit to Manistique would be complete without going to Indian Lake? The kids loved watching the minnows. The ducks came right up to us, which they also got a big kick out of!

Of course we had to go the the Manistique Lighthouse (because Jodi loves them, lol) and we walked out on the jetty for a close up. It was pretty windy, so the waves were splashing over the break-wall and we had fun getting soaked! The kids called it the “splash zone.” 💦

We took a long walk along the beach on the way back and relaxed in the sand and sun. Lake Michigan is definitely one of our happy places. The private beach across from the hotel had some amazing views!

For dinner, we had the absolute best pizza, cheese curds, and onion rings at Boardwalk Bar & Grill. I would highly recommend it and we will definitely be back!
